Title: Queensland Museum - Queensland Medal 2012
2 sculptures commissioned by the Queensland Museum

Each year the Queensland Museum presents the Queensland Medal in recognition of significant contribution by an individual to the development of science and scientific research.  The list of previous recipients is punctuated with many notable scientists and environmentalists including Sir David Attenborough and Mr Steve Irwin.

In 2012 the Queensland Museum is celebrating its 150th anniversary; as part of these celebrations the Queensland Museum will commission a sculptor to produce a work that that will be given to the recipient of the 2012 Queensland Medal.  A second sculpture, related to the first, will also be commissioned to become part of the Queensland Museum collection.

Earlier this year I was invited to submit a concept proposal to the museum for this commission.  I am pleased to announce that the honour of producing these two sculptures has been bestowed upon myself.

The first of the 2 sculptures '6 degrees of separation - origin' is almost complete with the second work '6 degrees of separation - adaptation' due for completion before the end of April.

The recipient of the 2012 Queensland Medal will be announced some time in May coinciding with the unveiling and exhibiting of 'six degrees of separation - adaptation' at the Queensland Museum.  Following the Queensland Museum showing the work will travel throughout Queensland to be exhibited at affiliated Museums.
